Situated on the lakeside of Peten Itza, this place is a lovely little wooden building with large rooms, a small restaurant and a dock going straight out into the lake. It was cheap (about £3 for a single room) which came with a hammock out on the veranda and a working fan.
The beauty of here over nearby Flores is that a) it is actually closer to Tikal and b) you can swim in the lake as it isn't dirty. The place does tours to Tikal, so no worries there - a minibus will come and pick you up. The fridge containing litre bottles of Gallo was also very, very welcome. If you want to chill on a hammock in a beautiful setting watching the stars emerge over a mirrored lake, do come here.  Part of the That Thin Bit Between Mexico & Colombia travel blog
