Fun Fun Fun enjoying Peruvian Folklore - La Candelaria Aug 10, 2008
Candelaria comes from the Word “candela” which means fire. The name of this Peña couldn’t have been chosen better, since this place is full of energy. It’s a big party, where you can find folklore from all the country and as a writer said: Peru has all the bloods…
The main attraction of the Candelaria is their show, which is performed in the dance floor. The show includes dances and music from all over the country: the coast, the highlands and the rainforest. The dancers are very good and their customs are colorful and nice. There is also a band which performs not only the typical music for the dances, but also dance music for the audience to dance while the dancers are taking a break. One of the things I like from the Candelaria the most is the great host they have. Actually he looks a bit like a cousin’s friend, haha. This man is really bubbly and full of energy. He would not only explain and introduce every dance, but also he would make the people become part of the show. He would play with all the “international” members of the audience and organize contests, so the happiest table would get free drinks, haha. Also they offer Peruvian appetizers and Exotic cocktails, haha. There are different cocktails with Pisco. The show starts at 10pm and keeps on going until 3am! Every time I come here, I have a blast. It’s impossible not to have fun here. The best is to go with a group of friends, you know: the more; the merrier. Do not forget to book a table in advance, try to get one close to the dance floor. As all the good places, this place is always packed. Just be ready to enjoy the show, dance and have lots of fun! Part of the Meeting travbuddies :) travel blog |

After that we went to La Candelaria, where other Tb's were already waiting for us. So the party started, they showed a lot of typical dances from Perú and you could dance too. So it was a great night I really enjoyed it with everybody. At La Candelaria I met Romain… Meet up in Lima :) |

Sadly when we left Posada a few people had to leave for the airport so we said goodbyes on the sidewalk and headed for Pena La Candelaria a typical Peruvian show, that eventually became not that Peruvian as the TB group got involved. We had 31 TB's at our table (even though 5 had left for the airport). It was a huge meetup! Shawn seemed to enjoy the stage… Lima Meetup - Barranco |
