Friendly, affordable hostel with great common areas Jun 04, 2011
This was my favorite hostel that I stayed in in all of Costa Rica (I traveled the country for a month). The staff was very friendly and helpful, and even offered surfing lessons. It had a pool in the middle which was really nice. I loved the common areas---they encouraged mingling of all people staying there so Botella de Leche is where I met the most fellow travelers (I even picked one up for the next leg of my trip). There was a common kitchen, dining area, lounge area with tv/books/couches/swing, computer area, and the pool, and each room had its own hammock and small "front porch" if you will. The computers were slow but what can you expect for roughly $8/person? They had individual rooms with its own bathroom for 4 people so you can lock your stuff in and not worry. The vibe here was good and a great price. I would go back in a heartbeat!
Chilling in the common area. Count…

Comfortable and Clean Budget Hostel Apr 05, 2011
I love, love, love this place! The owner, Mariana, is a wonderful lady and keeps the place running beautifully. The rooms are cleaned everyday and the atmosphere is super comfortable. There is a large communal kitchen that is great to use, especially if you are on a budget.

Who'd have thought staying in a room that looked like it was part of a converted lorry cargo container could be so cool? For US$8 a night, you get an air-conditioned room for three, access to the kitchen, a TV in the main room with DVD player and the run of the house. The Argentine owner is great (said Tots, Rob and I were model guests!), smokes for her country and is really chilled. You can hire boards and stuff, but I wouldn't recommend them - their quality is far inferior to the professional shops. Most importantly, the place is painted in a fresian cow motif. No idea why, it seems slightly mad, but looks great. Even the ropey bikes are black and white. Most of all though, the people made it. A fully multinational set and almost everyone was really great (for those that know me, that statement will come as a shock). I firmly believe this is because of the attitude of the owner. If you go to Tamarindo, stay here. (No photos as yet, I was strangely slack in this regard) - However, some are on their way...
