The Henrichenburg boat lift is a popular weekend trip destination for locals. Constructed in 1899, it enabled navigation to Dortmund. When a new boat lift was opened in 1962, this old boat lift was destined for demolition, but local protests have preserved it as industrial heritage.

The old Henrichenburg boat lift is part of a museum, admission fee is 4 EUR. You can take some nice photos from outside, but if you want to climb onto the towers and into the lift, it makes sense to pay. Within the museum, there is a cruiseport, where you can pay another 7 EUR for a cruise. The museum area has one staffed entrance and two unstaffed exits. Reentry is possible at the staffed entrance.

The new Henrichenburg boat lift is located some hundred metres away. Both areas have separate parking lots, but they are connected by a footway. A restaurant is available between boat lifts.
