L’Oratoire Saint Joseph du Mont Royal Nov 07, 2013
I definitely did not expect L’Oratoire Saint Joseph du Mont Royal to be different than many other “classically” built cathedrals, but this one has nothing to do with the rest. From the outside, long staircase leads you up hill through the nice park and parking area to the fortress looking building with the large dome in the middle. Area in the middle of the stairs is reserved for devotees that travel on their knees and pray on the way. Inside of this church is beautifully done, total breakthrough from the classical ornamental representation of the god and religious happenings. Sharp lines of the pillars and the dome construction go in harmony with rough iron works of the doors and gates, and simplicity is overwhelmingly perfect. Cathedral has a elevator but it does not allow you to go to the all floors. On the side there is bell room where some people can play an instrument connected with the bell tower outside of the building. This is one of my top cathedrals in the world for being different and unique.
