LONDA,a burial cave Reviews
A burial cave and carved chambers guarded by striking tau tau Sep 19, 2009
Six km south of Rantepao is the grave site of Londa at the base of a cliff face. Here two methods of burial are customary. The coffins of ordinary people remain in caves at the foot of a cliff while the high-ranking deceased rest in chambers carved in the cliff wall. The higher the status of the dead person the higher the carved burial chamber.
The entrance of the main cave is guarded by a balcony of striking tau tau especially an old woman dressed in pink wearing a necklace and showing amazing details on her neck.Entering the cave with a lamp, one can see a collection of coffins more or less rotten with scattered bones and skulls.
Londa is Unesco World Heritage Site.
