So - where should you party in Hong Kong? Well there are really only 2 places where all the action happens.

1) Lan Kwai Fong (LKF for short)
2) Wan Chai

The night has to start in LKF. There you can begin knocking down the happy hour drinks, as well as have some dinner at the various restaraunts. I have never actually eaten anything there (I go strictly for the drinking), but I've heard from others that Agave (Mexican) and Beirut Lebanese Cuisine serve up the best meals. As far as bars are concerned, if it's a weekend night all of them will be packed. Bar George (at top of the hill) seems to be very popular, so good luck approaching the bar. If you are into some live music by a Philippino cover band, then try to get into Insomnia (just a few bars down from Bar George). If you get there early enough (before 11pm) you should be able to get in.

At around 1am, the crowd slowly begins to subside. But don't be fooled and think they are all going home. They have moved to either one of the underground clubs or to Wan Chai. If you are not a local (or not WITH a local who is a member) then forget about searching or trying to get into these "members-only" clubs (although I've been to a few, thanks to my friend, and they are good!). Grab a Taxi and head to Wan Chai.

There are 2 types of bars you can visit in Wan Chai; the girly bars or regular bars. It is very easy to get duped into going in a girly bar, but unless you plan on picking up a prostitute quick, you'll be hating yourself for spending so much money on "girly" drinks which cost 3x the amount of a regular drink. If you want to continue your good old-fashioned partying and drinking that you started in LKF (and you can still try to pick up a 'decent' girl) then head to Carnegies. Carnegies tends to have their off nights, so if this is one of those nights then go straight to "Dusk till Dawn". This is another bar with a live band (like Insomnia) and as the name suggests it is open till dawn. Always a good time!

Enjoy your stay in Hong Kong :)

i wish i had know about this sooner, because i went to HK in august and i was so unprepared! i spent most of my time in wan chai and kowloon. but i'll have to hit up this LKF it sounds good. the only bar i could find in wan chai was banana joe's which was okay but too much military. im going to hk again this spring so i'll be sure to check out LKF and the bars u mentioned. thanks for putting that out there!

You pay I think HKD 100 for the access, but this includes a vegetarian meal + soft drink.  I am not a vegetarian, but the meal was delicious!  Back on Hong Kong island we took the Star Ferry, and in the evening walked along the Victoria Harbour and Avenue of the Stars.  And at night... well you guessed it, LKF & Wan Chai!!!! :P … Big Buddha
