Floating on a cloud at L’Idiot du Village Mar 11, 2009
Situated in Marollen in the shadow of the Palais de Justice and not far away from the Grand Sablon, you can easily miss this extremely nice little restaurant.
From the outside you are looking at some windows displaying at kinds of small gadget and just gives an impression that there must be something nice behind the covered windows. When you enter trough the red theatre drapes you instantly know that you have arrived at the right place. First impression is cosiness and calm. The whole atmosphere is warm and wonderful; people are instantly enjoying themselves because there is lots of space around each table and you feel that you have entered a cave of comfort. The décor is cosy with gentle lighting and exposed brick walls, which makes this a perfect setting for and late evening or night. Head chef Alain Gascoin serves an inventive seasonal menu of classic French cuisine, while Olivier Le Bret looks after front of house, or, what he calls, after 18 years of mollycoddling, "his baby". All the meal I have had in here has been sweet kisses from angels. The service is friendly, helpful and never pushy. Everybody in the restaurant speaks perfect English and there is no excuse to not ask in to the dishes; there are many stories to be told about the menu. This resturant has become one of my favourite places to enjoy a meal in Brussels and they haven’t seen the last of me yet. A fabulous place.
