Top hotel in Lille Oct 08, 2008
If you're traveling to/through France and you come from the Netherlands or Flanders, the first bigger French town you meet is Lille (Rijsel). Most people do this at a speed of at least 100 km/h on their way to more southern destinations, so they don't know what they miss. Lille is a very pretty Flemmish town in which you easily can spend some agreable days. And so we did.
We treated our selves on the best hotel in town: l'Hermitage Gantois. Located south of the centre near the Porte de Paris it is a good location to discover Lille on foot. The hotel is situated in a medieval hospital including (wedding) chapel and some courtyards. Actually one courtyard got a glass roof and is now bar/lobby. The restaurant is of high French cuisine and is very popular, so you better make reservations. We had a junior suite overlooking the lobby; the room (no. 228) was very clean and decent, while the modern bathroom was a bit small, but had a nice bath. I must say, that the hotel made our stay in Lille perfect. The entourage is great and so is the bill... |
