Affordable French bar and bistrot, huge salads! Mar 07, 2009
If your taste buds crave French cuisine but you're too hungry to try your luck with nouvelle cuisine portions or too broke for Le Chef Rouge, La Casserole or Le Coq Hardy, L'Aperô is the place for you. We love this place and go there often. It's very cozy and unpretentious, a place where you can take our backgammon board along if you're in the mood for a game. Credit goes to the expat French owners who do not try to make L'Aperô into a pastiche of a French bistrot in the tropics (I mean why should it be mandatory for all French restaurants to display Robert Doisneau prints and play Serge Gainsbourg?).The food is yummy and tastes like homemade French cuisine. Hearty portions. The salads are out of this world and big enough for two. The deviled eggs are a great option as an appetizer and the squid and noix d'entrecôte are highly recommended. Last time I was there there was just one minor disappointment. They were using frozen french fries instead of those delicious thick wedges they used to bring us. But I guess we can live with that...
