Acknowledgement : First a brief nod to my fellow Brit globetrotter and long-time star of TB, Phil Deats (Deats). It was in the very early stages of my having finally decided to take off around the world for 2 years(ish) that I came across Phil’s own blog, discovering he was already long int…

On a 16 hour stopover in Prague, I got the idea to see Kutna Hora, an hour's train outside Prague (I had been to Prague before). What you find there is grisly, beautiful and disturbing.

My friend Josef left for Slovakia and Kathy does not arrive until tonight, so since I will be all by myself during the day I decided to rent a car with a guide/driver to take me to some fantastic place. My hotel made all the arrangements and I got my car and driver at 9 am.
The drive was…

Way back in the 16th century, when faced with an abundance of human bones and nowhere to put them (they were excavated during a construction project), some monk had a flash of brilliance... “I know! Let’s redecorate!” The morbid result of this brainstorm can be found in the town of Kutn…

If you are ever in Prague, definitely make a trip to see the bone church in Kutna Hora. Its less than an hour away by train. The town has other sites as well, but nothing is as eerie and cool at the same time as a room full of bones stacked by a half blind monk hundreds of years ago.

We had gotten up a bit earlier because we had the 9:45am train to catch at Prague's Hlavni Nadrazi station. We waited with about 200 other people in the main hall, looking at the board for a platform number to appear next to our train with destination Brno. And then it was off to the furthest platf…

I first heard of Prague some years ago watching some Halloween magic
show on TV where the magician went to Prague and played a bunch of
tricks on unsuspecting tourists and such. During the show he also went
to the Ossuary in Kutna Hora, from that moment i knew someday I wanted
to go to Prague, …

This day started out as just a day trip to see what appeared to be an interesting city. I didn't realize how cool it would be. The tour didn't officially include the ossuary at first, but all of us on the tour got to vote and we all chose to go see it, and it was an amazing sight!

In Kutna Hora, an old silver mining town that once rivalled Prague, I got a tour of the mines where I had to dress as a miner and descend hundreds of stairs underground. Some of the passageways were so narrow that I had to turn sideways to get through, and some of the ceilings were so low I w…
