Kutna Hora Pub Crawl
posted by:

Dec 31, 2007 - Feb 25, 2008
Did a pub crawl in Kutna hora. Stayed at Centrum Pension and the receptionist asked me "how much do you want to pay" when i said that i was looking for accommodation. I got a double room for 300kc a night which wasnt all that bad , but it was without heating! In WINTERTIME! But the blanket was warm so i managed. I cant really be mad at those people since the gave me a free coffee and free use of the internet. But.. I arrived around 8 o clock , took a shower and felt ready to conquer the town....

How to redecorate using human bones.
posted by:
Jan 21, 2008 - Sep 27, 2008
Way back in the 16th century, when faced with an abundance of human bones and nowhere to put them (they were excavated during a construction project), some monk had a flash of brilliance... “I know! Let’s redecorate!”  The morbid result of this brainstorm can be found in the town of Kutna Hora, 44  miles (70km) south of Prague. There, we visited a church that is dressed to the nines in skulls, femurs, tibias, and every other bone in the human body. The church reportedly houses...

Got a spare part?
posted by:
May 29, 2007 - Jul 09, 2008
After yet another fantastically crazy bus ride back to Prague (they over sell seats and folks were packed in the aisles standing for two hours!), we made our way to Kutna Hora, the town famous for its bone church, or Ossuary.  About 40,000 folks decorate that place.  I couldn't stop taking pictures!  Bizarre.  I can't decide if cremation is better or lending yourself to art, but it's not something I wanted to ponder too long. Kutna Hora itself is a pretty town b...

If you are ever in Prague, definitely make a trip to see the bone church in Kutna Hora. Its less than an hour away by train. The town has other sites as well, but nothing is as eerie and cool at the same time as a room full of bones stacked by a half blind monk hundreds of years ago.

The Ossuary
posted by:
Sep 11, 2005 - Nov 09, 2005
I first heard of Prague some years ago watching some Halloween magic show on TV where the magician went to Prague and played a bunch of tricks on unsuspecting tourists and such. During the show he also went to the Ossuary in Kutna Hora, from that moment i knew someday I wanted to go to Prague, and I wanted to see this 'Bone Church'. Getting onto the bus in Prague bound for Kutna Hora, I spotted a Coopers sparkling ale badge on a bag, and knew that I was in the presence of someone from ...

Day 4: Them Bones...
posted by:
Aug 23, 2008 - Aug 29, 2008
We had gotten up a bit earlier because we had the 9:45am train to catch at Prague's Hlavni Nadrazi station. We waited with about 200 other people in the main hall, looking at the board for a platform number to appear next to our train with destination Brno. And then it was off to the furthest platform, where we waited for about 10 minutes before an old and dirty train rolled into the station. We got on and found seats in an empty compartment, where we waited for the train to depart. It was p...

A Miners Life for me
posted by:
Jun 21, 2006 - Jul 16, 2006
In Kutna Hora, an old silver mining town that once rivalled Prague, I got a tour of the mines where I had to dress as a miner and descend hundreds of stairs underground.  Some of the passageways were so narrow that I had to turn sideways to get through, and some of the ceilings were so low I was almost crawling.  Did I mention it had almost no lighting, so that flashlight wasn't just for show.  Good thing nobody fat came in, they'd have never made it through.

Bones, Bones, Bones...and a beautiful city
posted by:
Feb 14, 2004 - Sep 15, 2008
This day started out as just a day trip to see what appeared to be an interesting city.  I didn't realize how cool it would be.  The tour didn't officially include the ossuary at first, but all of us on the tour got to vote and we all chose to go see it, and it was an amazing sight!

EUROPE 2003: Kutna Hora Travel Photos

My very first trip to Europe took me to France, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary (sorry... no pictures from Hungary!). There is not much to say about Europe since it is a very well knowm continent by many worldwide travellers..... but Slovakia turned out to be a wonderful place with its unique countryside and carphatian mountains scenery. Prague is undoubtedely the MOST beautiful city I ever seen with such wonderful preserved architecture.

How to get home from Mongolia... Train to Chinese border, then bus to Beijing, plane to Moscow, then plane to Prague in time to see Wales play the Czech Republic. Then a plane to london for the Wales-Brazil game, and home to Cardiff on the Megabus!
