Okay, I have to talk about a GREAT Egyptian dish that Egyptians love. This dish, kushary, can be found in any one of a million little hole in the wall restaurants in town. These restaurants only serve kushary, but they do it well. The dish consists of rice, lentil, pasta, and a tomato paste. When you go inside a kushary restaurant, you will find yourself surrounded by locals. When the server comes over, he'll make mention of 3 sizes - just note that even small is huge. Once you've ordered your kushary, it seems like only a moment before the dish is in front of you. After you finish it off (and you will because it's so good), you have the option of rice pudding for dessert. Do not turn this down, it's as good as the kushary! The best part of all is that the kushary and the rice pudding together will cost you less than 10 Egyptian pounds, and so not only are you eating a healthy dish, it barely cost a thing!

After we ate, we walked around downtown Cairo for a bit before hopping a train down to Luxor in southern Egypt for our Nile River Cruise. … Back to Cairo |
