A nice hotspring after a days hike Jan 21, 2009
Kurama onsen (hot springs) is not the most beautiful Onsen but it is a great place to soothe your body after a days hiking from Kibune to Kurama.
The onsen costs 1100 yen per adult or 700 yen for a child. If you don't have towels or a face washer you can rent them for 200 yen, soap and shampoo is provided. The ticket booth is next to the vending machines.
If you don't know the rules to bathing in an onsen there is a poster on the wall in English to help you.
You can either walk the ten minutes from Kurama station or be picked up in the free shuttle bus that runs roughly every 30 minutes. The bus driver can speak English.
This onsen has quite a lot of foreign guests as it is only 30 minutes from Kyoto also the hiking course from Kibune to Kurama is also popular with foreigners.
You can also stay at the Kurama Onsen ryokan (Japanese style hotel) Rates start at around 15,000 yen including dinner and breakfast. Which ever you decide to do if your in the area you should definately try the Onsen.
On October 22nd the town has one of the best fire festivals in Japan
