Kur Hotel Mingachevir Reviews
Kur Hotel Aug 11, 2013
Kur Hotel was a brand new venue in the city of Mingachevir when I got there. We were setting up the rowing race track in the front of the hotel and they were going to held some races from the new water sports center that is built in the hotel complex. Actually whole complex is revamped winter camp site from old Russia times. This time Azerbaijani government built almost perfect setting and venue for all Olympic sports and their plan is to make camp for winter preparations. Next to hotel they built Olympic size pool (only one in Azerbaijan), awesome sport hall for all team sports (basketball, volleyball, handball, and also box, wrestling…) and super nice gym. Aside of that they have few tennis courts, this large water center with many hangars, few docks, and there is also a old school stadium right next to this complex.
Whole complex is built on the banks of the river Kura couple kilometers from the huge water reservoir. Area is a bit secluded but not too far from the “city center” and interesting places that you should visit. Town is pretty uninteresting, but they do have a museum, an OK market and huge reservoir.
Hotel is sizable and kind of well made and maintained. Rooms are surprisingly large and fitted with a bit blah furniture and kind of second thought design elements. There is nice bar on the first floor, but for the nice dinner you should go to the tower restaurant that is right next to the hotel. This restaurant has western and local food. Local fish is very good and you can get it prepared to perfection in almost any joint along the river. You can access the top of the tower from which you will have nice view on the mountain range and whole area around Kura River. Sunsets can be really magical in this place. Nice river bank is very nice for walks and it should be expended to the city’s boardwalk area (they told me).
Staff speaks English (more or less) but if you have knowledge of Russian you will be ok anywhere in Azerbaijan.
This is definitely the best hotel you will find in the area and they are trying to make it exclusive.
