Kupeli Hotel Istanbul Reviews
Not a bad choice for central Istanbul Apr 28, 2010
We had booked the Küpeli hotel via the Internet and received a very good deal. We paid less than half the rack rate for a triple room which worked out to 30 euros per person. Certainly not bad for a four star hotel in the centre of a large city!
When we got there we had another surprise: they gave us the bridal suite! No complaining there either, even though the jacuzzi was perhaps a tad too small and cosy for the three of us :-)
As far as amenities are concerned, this hotel is good value for money. The beds are comfortable, the breakfast sumptuous, the bar stocked and the Wi-Fi works fairly well.
Where this place is lagging behind though is in service and maintenance. The staff is friendly and helpful, yet there is no communication going on between the various members of staff at all. When we complained about our room not having three beds like requested, but rather a double and a single bed, we were offered to move to a different room on the second day. After the first night we had established the double bed was large enough to sleep comfortably enough with two guys and we did like the size of our suite, so we agreed with the receptionist that we would stay put in our present room. When we got back at night all our luggage had been taken out of our room and moved to a much smaller room though. None of our luggage had been packed, so they'd moved our clothes, toiletries, books, everything. This is something that's definitely not done in my opinion. Hotel staff is not to touch their guests' personal belongings.
Another thing lacking is maintenance. The jacuzzi/shower was leaking so every time after someone had had a shower the whole bathroom would be flooded. Despite several complaints this was not fixed during the course of our stay.
The electrical lock of our door did not work either, so we also had to ask for someone to come with us with the master key to open the door for us. This minor nuisance was only fixed on the last day of our stay.
Despite these shortcomings we had a comfortable stay at the Küpeli hotel and I would still recommend it to others. As said, it is a comfortable place and its location near Çemberlitas tram stop is terrific. So when you can manage to get a good deal via the Internet, this is certainly good value for money.
