Kunming is affectionately referred to as "the City of Eternal Spring". It is said to have the best weather in China. Mainly, because of its location 2,000 metres above sea level on a mountain plateau, the climate remains fairly mild most of the year.
People from Kunming say that 300 days of the year are spring-like. This is the capital city of Yunnan Province in south west China. An international airport connects nearby and neighbouring countries ... Bangladesh, Laos, Myanmar (Burma),Thailand & Vietnam.

With tears in my eyes and pain ripping through my heart I bid Yangshuo farewell.
Okay, I leave Yangshuo. That's that. I'm heading back to Guilin to catch a train to Kunming, a sweet 18 hours away. First up is the one hour busride to Guilin, and that one turns out to be nervewrekcing. Buses leave (roughly) on time in China, but only start really going when they're full. Like, seriously full. This when full principle can take ages. The bus drives along the streets on walking pace with th...

People i met here, who contributed to and improved my trip: Juliana (Russia)
We decided to stick around the hostel for all of the day on New Years Eve and meet some people to go out with that night. We met a few cool people and enjoyed a barbeque and a few beers whilst relaxing round a fire, in the middle of Hump Hostels Bar. All the preceding week, we had seen very few westerners in the hostel, but the New Year seemed to have attracted a real crowd to Kunming!
Around 22.30 we moved on to C...

A few people had told us how good sleeper buses are, but I can't recall exactly who these "people" were; which is good because if I ever catch up with them .....
I never, ever want to travel by sleeper bus again. We had decided to give this a try as we couldn't book an overnight train and it would mean we could avoid spending the night in Kunming. We managed to find a travel agent able to book a bus (most are only interested in selling tours around Lijiang) but ended up with almo...

well, one of the two pics was taken at Rocco's. Rocco is an italian friend of mine from Naples. We arrived in Kunming in 1998. Then I took my way home and he decided to remain there. Now he has opened a restaurant in Wenlin jie, is married with a chinese woman, and has three marvellous kids. Weird enough, they look like italian boys but can't say a word in Italian and only speak Chinese or Kunming dialect to be honest as they are growing up there. Rocco's food is simply delicious and now,...
