Took an MWR tour from Sasebo to Kumamoto.  They had an impressive castle and a peaceful "zen-like" park.  The castle is definitely work seeing and is more interesting that the castle at Hirado.

Besides temples you'll see so now and then other kinds of historical buildings. This castle built in 1607 belonged to many different conquerors, but became famous for its role during the final war between the Satsuma samurai and the govenmental army back in 1877.
