Kuala Selangor Vacation Guide
Kuala Selangor is home to arguably Malaysia's largest firefly colony.
This sleepy town, located 67kms southeast of capital city, Kuala Lumpur, houses a fishing village and is popular with tourists for its cheap seafood, as well as the fireflies that can be found by the banks of the Selangor river.
Melawati Hill is another location worth visting, as it houses a couple of forts - built in the 18th century by the Dutch (Fort Altingsburg) and Fort Melawati, by locals who feared that foreign invaders would try to conquer them as they did Melaka, which is located just south down the coastline. There are also old colonial houses, built during the British invasion. Melawati Hill is also home to the silverleafed monkeys and long-tailed macaques, long term residents of the hill.
Another attraction is the Kuala Selangor Nature Park, located at the foot of Melawati Hill. Among its inhabitants are migratory birds from Siberia, as well as mangrove wildlife.
