Langkawi Island, Malaysia
Kuah Town Langkawi Island Reviews
Sleepy town Jan 29, 2012
Langkawi's main town, Kuah is located at the southest part of the island.
Its known for its duty free shops selling chocolates and porcelain items. It generally looks like any small town in other parts of Malaysia. Mainly unattractive looking provision shops selling daily necessities items for the local community. There is a ferry jetty here which can take you to Penang or some other nearby island or states in Malaysia.
It was pretty difficult to find a decent restaurant here. Theres only those small coffeeshop or fast food restaurant at the jetti.
The main reason I came here was to see the eagle - Dataran Lang or Eagle Square. As you may know, the eagle is symbolic of Langkawi. Lang or helang in Malay language literally translate to Eagle. We went at night, for a tourist spot I would expect the place to be at least be well lit up. But no, it was a quite a dark walk to reach it from the town centre. My nephew was scared since it was his first experience walking in the dark. The lights surrounding the Eagle was lit up -Thankfully otherwise it would be such a waste as we would be able to see a thing!
I think the local authorities should look into the matter, electricity is cheap in Malaysia afterall!
