Krka National Park in Croatia Oct 18, 2011
Krka NP is one of the obligatory places to see in Croatia. And this really is true. Spectacular nature, beautiful vegetation and wildlife, I'd suggest everyone visiting Croatia to come and see for themselves.

The Krka river flows through the typical dalmatian karst landscape, creating waterfalls and cascades but also resting in tranquil lakes. All across the park a path is build where visitors can stroll over the river and through the forest and enjoy the cool air coming from the water. One little part of the river is free for swimming, it's located at the Skradin entrance. There one can also have something to eat and drink, and there's a big picnic lawn as well.

At Lozovac entrance the boats take off - there are 3 different trips which differ in length and sights. These boat trips are paid for separately. I'd certainly recommend the trip to Visovac monastery. It's located on an island in the middle of the river and boasts with a fantastic botanical garden. There is also a little museum, which keeps the world's smallest book. Another beautiful sight is the waterfall RoŇ°ki slap, where we had a break at some local Konobas (= dalmatian tavern). They offer excellent home made cheese and smoked ham.

NP Krka can be easily explored on foot, the paths are good to walk on and the forest provides shade from the summer heat. A boat trip, though, gives a better look over the area. What amazed me was, that besides of the regular informational panels, there are also info-panels in Braille lettering.

During off season (October-April) there are much, much less visitors and imo a much nicer time to come. In the summer there are up to 50000 visitors per day! Well, they all know it's worth it :)
