Kranj is a picturesque historic town above the confluence of two alpine rivers, the Sava and the Kokra. Due to its geographical position – on the junction of important routes, leading from the Northern Europe to the Adriatic Sea and from the Western Europe towards the Eastern Europe – Kranj is also a strong commercial centre. Kranj, being the fourth biggest city in Slovenia, is industrial, employment, traffic, educational, cultural and sports centre of Gorenjska. Known by Grad Khislstein (castle Khislstein) and poet Preseren museum. The town is accessable by car, by bus or by train. Highway Ljubljana - Naklo goes pass Kranj by its North-East corner. If you're coming from Ljubljana, a motorway is also a good choise. The rails connections are pretty rare, so bus or car are better solution.
Numerous archaeological excavations bear witness to the town’s ancient history: City Hall, Prešeren Memorial Museum, Prešeren’s grove, The parish church of St. Kancijan, Pungert with the two towers and the church, Khislstein castle and country mansion, Jože Plečnik in Kranj, The tunnels of Kranj. The most important cultural-historical sights are located exactly in the old town core of Kranj. In the immediate vicinity of the old town core is the Kokra Canyon, which was declared a natural sight. Kranj and its surroundings are rich in natural sights The canyon of Kokra, Udin boršt, The Šum waterfall, The Trboje Lake, Park Brdo.
