Küppers Kölsch Pub & Café Kyoto Reviews
Big mistake! May 07, 2013
Küppers Kölsch Pub & Café is located in a restaurant area in the basement of the Avanti department store, just across the street from Kyoto station's south exit.
After 4 weeks of Japanese food (no offense applied) I was ready for a pizza. It was just a coincidence that I walked by Küppers Kölsch Pub & Café, and saw that they had Italian food. The place was full, so I thought "good". Since there were no free tables, I got a seat at the bar.
The pub offered cheese, gratin, spaghetti, pizza and some small dishes/snack. They had a good selection of whisky and 18 different types of beer from 9 different countries. The menu was in both Japanese and English. I ordered the tuna & corn pizza. It was a thin and pale looking pizza. It was completely tasteless. It's the first time I have had something with tuna and not been able to taste it. The crust was thin and chewy. The dough was more like the pastry used for making croissants.
While I was waiting for my food I was looking around. It was a strange looking place. They tried to look like a pub, but the wrought iron and crystal chandeliers didn't quite fit in. It totally lacked atmosphere.
Why the place was so full was beyond me. It totally lacked charm and the food wasn't even good. It was a big mistake to stop by.
