Kowloon is definately as vibrant as Hong Kong - and a recomended place to crash. Hotel's in Kowloon is cheaper then on Hong Kong island, but 5-7 min. subway ride takes you into the heart of Hong Kong Island.
The entertainment and shoping area of Hong Kong is centered around Nathan Road and Argyle Street in Kowloon. Here's everything from malls, to small food stalls, beauty parlors, high end fashion shops, photo shops (cheaper to buy memory cards here), and tailors, and belive me - if you are looking for a tailor just go to Nathan Road, and stop looking because they will find you!
and looking for hot bargains? try the night market at Temple Street it's open 4pm to 11pm and would fascinate anyone who useually go to chinatown for a good deal :)
