Strolling about Jumeirah Beach Residence we noticed Kosebasi restaurant around lunchtime and Turkish cuisine struck us appealing, so in we went. Guess we didn’t go “in” since we sat at one of the tables on the porch where you can enjoy the food and gawk at the masses thronging the Walk. The Walk is a promenade running almost two kilometers along Jumeirah Beach that is chock full of upper tier retail shops and restaurants, catering to expats residing in this beachfront neighborhood next to Dubai Marina. Since everything is high caliber along this stretch we had no doubts the choice would prove satisfactory.

Kosebasi certainly did not disappoint, though it didn’t “wow” us either. The lamb kebab I ordered as a welcome back meal to the Middle East was quite tasty, but prices relegated our fare to a fair value rather than a Turkish delight. I subsequently learned Kosebasi is a chain anchored in Istanbul and got voted one of the “50 Best Restaurants” by Conde Nast magazine. Our experience was good, but didn’t seem to warrant such stunning accolades. The service was capable, but at times annoying (we had a large bottle of Evian on the table and an attendant kept returning to top us off after merely taking a sip – the dang bottle was on the table and I can pour for myself, thank you).

We peeked inside and it was lovely, so perhaps if we were seeking a more formal affair this would have been the ticket. Please don’t let me dissuade you from sampling Kosebasi, for it did not fail on any specific point. Unfortunately it didn’t exceed expectations either.
