Kopi Tiam Oey Reviews
Remembering old times? Jun 07, 2009
Kopi Tiam is a malay words for coffe shops. Especially popular in Sumatera and some part of Malaysia, this kind of coffee shops became a local hang out place, where mostly the loyal customers came early in the morning (after morning jogging or taichi) and had some nice coffee and breakfast. This breakfast is combined with chatting time and can extend as late as lunch time.
This place is created by a Indonesian foodie expert - Bondan Winarno who's expertise and popularity about food (and anything related to it) is not doubted anymore. This place is small and decorated with bright marron color in the front. As we entered the place - there are several seating places in old style seats and tables. The wall is full with old chinese - peranakan ornaments and vintage posters. Peranakan is a blend of chinese and malay culture. The menu has quite a lot of selections. The drinks are several kind of coffee (Vietnamese coffee, traditional indonesian coffee, milk coffee), teas (Teh Poci - indonesian tea served in authentic style, ginger tea, even Moroccan tea) and some other basic drinks. They had all day food such as sandwich and toast. The specialty is a toast filled with kaya (mixed of egg and coconut jam). We tried their panini sandwich and the bread is very fresh. They also served some dish of the day - from Lontong cap gomeh (packed rice with coconut milk sauce) and satay ayam (chicken skewer with peanut sauce) and many more. The average cost of each drinks and food is 10k - 30k Rp (1-3 USD), which is quite reasonable. This is a nice place to hang out and chat with a group of friends and enjoying the food at the same time. Part of the Jakarta 2009 till.....(Indonesia) travel blog |
