Kona Coast Resort Kahaluu-Keauhou Reviews
Good location- but you should have a car Dec 19, 2009
This is a very nice location, but is a long walk to a public beach and much further to downtown Kailua-Kona. I start with this because too many people fail to research exactly where their lodging is located and plan for transportation.
Sylvia and I often enjoy traveling without any form of reservations, but that isn't the norm here. You would need to have transportation or a taxi to get from town to the resort. We picked up two hot and tired ladies who were walking back to their resort(after taking public transport into town) When they realized how far they would have walked, one of the ladies was so grateful for the ride she started to cry. Their resort was approx 3/4 mile closer to the "downtown waterfront" and much more oceanfront than Kona Coast Resort II, both of which are on Alii Drive.
The Resort is listed as a condominium facility, but both one and two bedroom units can be found for weekly rentals on several websites. The units are very nicely furnished. Main beds are mostly Kings and are quite comfortable. They have a full furnished kitchen, washer and dryer, living room with a wide screen TV, huge bedrooms with fans. Main bathrooms are nice as well. When we were there a fee was charged to activate the unit air conditioning for the week.
The pool and spas are busy in the afternoons and early evenings(a smaller spa about 250 ft from the main pool complex is often ignored and vacant) Swim masks, fins, belly boards, etc. can be rented at a shed next to the pool/snack bar/drink bar. The menu at the snack bar is quite complete. We had margaritas with all of our meals. (except breakfast...)
A shopping center with restaurants, a good grocery store, miscellaneous shops and an automotive gas station is less than 1/4 mile from the resort entrance. This is both helpful and convenient when eating in or when a few items need to be obtained quickly, without disrupting other plans.
