Best Pizza and Beer! Jun 16, 2012
About a month before I went to Hawaii, I randomly discovered Longboard beer from the Kona Brewing Co. I immediately knew that I had to stop by when on the island. Some friends of mine had mentioned that the breweries pizza was wonderful. They were lying. It was AMAZING! I chose a 1/2 pizza 1/2 salad entre' special and I wish that I had just ordered pizza. If you don't go to the Brewing Co. for the beer, go for the pizza :) I ended up having a wonderful night, splitting a brew sample with new friends I met at the bar. (My personal favorite was the Lemongrass beer.) If you go, be prepared for a wait--unless you are flying solo. And check out the menu here: http://konabrewingco.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/5/files/2011/06/KON_11003_Menupdate_Koko_web.pdf

fun atmosphere...good beer & food Jun 22, 2009
Kona Brewing Company is not easy to find but is definately worth the time to search out. We looked several nights then David asked for directions... (but he's a man so don't let anyone know he did this...;) )

When we walked to the front entrance we thought it was clever using large beer distillery vats as the entrance decoration. We checked in with the reception and got a buzzer to notify us of the table. Well before we anticipated the buzzer let us know we would be seated.. The hostess was friendly and cheerful... we opted to sit outside in the jungle torch lit setting.

Our waiter, Benjamin, was a cheery knowledgeable guy who loved beer. He grew up drinking it in Ireland near the Wales border. He had tried all of the beers and knew the tastes and qualities of all of them. I chose to get the four 6 oz glasses of sampler beers: I had Pipeline Porter:dark smooth beer roasty tasting, Wailua Wheat Ale: golden ale with tropical passion fruit flavoring, Hula Hefeweizer: Banana Herbal flavor with pronounced hops flavor, Castaway IPA: bitter full bodied and malty flavored (The sampler was $7.68). David had the Pipeline Porter ($4.30 mug) Benjamin also brought us a small Blacksand Porter with Bitter Chocolate flavor (good...smoother than Pipeline...less bitter...) and a small seasonal beer that was just released in June (I can't recall the name).

For Dinner I ordered a small Greek Pizza with extra Feta...$16.00 and David ordered a Large Nachos : it was well prepared and had tons of medium hot jalepenos ($12.00) Both were delicious and well prepared.

We loved this place. The Staff were friendly and knowledable. The food was excellent. We didn't wait very long to get in and our meal came out quickly. We plan on going back later this week with my sister when she arrives.

The Kona Brewing Company is a must-stop place for anyone who is looking for beer on tap, live music and great pizza. Most of the bands that play here are either local blues bands or less-known musicians from the "mainland", such as Johnny Lang. They also have reggae concerts on occasion, which are pretty cool. It's a really relaxed, fun place to hang out and their pizzas are faboulous, with good, fresh ingredients such as goat cheese, etc.
