Kommagene Pension Kahta Reviews
Try to avoid this place if you can May 06, 2010
Kahta is not much of a nice town, but it is a good base from which to do an excursion to nearby Nemrut Dagi. For accommodation there are only three options, each in a different price bracket. The Kommagene pension is the budget option with basic double and triple rooms and camping facilities.
The rooms are, quite frankly, awful. The sheets, bed spreads and carpets are worn and stained and cleanliness is a concept they have only vaguely heard off.
Breakfast is not served, which is a bit of a problem as well, as there isn't much to be found in the rest of the town either.
The owners of the pension and travel agency are very pushy when it comes to selling their tours to Nemrut or Urfa. While these tours can be convenient, they are not particularly good value for money. Also be aware that the price of these 'tours' are largely dependent on your negotiation skills.
Refusing to take one of their tours can lead to rather nasty arguments. You should only stay in Kahta if you absolutely have to, for example in order to take a bus the next day. If you find yourself stuck in Kahta, the two other (more expensive) hotels in town may be a better option. If you have the time, try and stay in Karadut instead, which is much closer to Mt Nemrut, but also harder to get to by public transport.
The Turkish pronunciation of the name “Kommagene” sounds somewhat like “Come again”. Well, I'd rather not, thank you very much!
