Kolomenskoe - a nice surprise! Sep 23, 2011
This was definitely one of the highlights of my visit to Moscow.

Kolomenskoe in first place is a beautiful park, a former royal estate, which was recognized by UNESCO mainly because of its very unique, white Ascension church. It is a place very few will recommend or mention when they talk about Moscow, but me and a couple of friend absolutely loved it.

Kolomenskoe was such a great retreat from Moscow's traffic and rush. One of very few places where you actually couldn't hear the city noise at all. You can take a walk down the river, breathe some fresh air, have a picnic, check out the museums & churches (they were all closed because we arrived at 6 pm there), have a nice sight of Moscow... what more do you need?

P.S. I stated that it's for free, but I'm sure you have to pay some small fees for museums.

A Former Royal Estate Jul 02, 2008
There are quite a lot of Museum-Preserves in Moscow. One of them is wonderful Kolomenskoye, which is also one of the most ancient places of the modern Moscow area.

Kolomenskoye was first mentioned in document dated 1339. But there are some archeological monuments of the Stone Age settlements.

The museum is famous for the amazing church which was built in white stone in 1532. The Church of the Ascension became UNESCO World Heritage site in 1994.

Kolomenskoye as the open-air museum has got an amaizing collection of 16th–17th buildings.

Also it is a very nice place for picnicks during summer season, of course.

And of course there are a lot of things for tourists, like guides wearing national closes, horse-riding, sailing wooden boats, some Moscow river cruises as well and of course lots of cafes with traditional russian meals.

P.S. Free entrance to the open-air museum and park, you may need tickets to visit buildings and exibitions.
