Koh Tao is a small island, about 21 km2, located on the east coast of Thailand, between Surattani and Chumphon.

The island is most famous for its fantastic diving opportunities, and there's plenty of dive centers all around. The atmosphere is very relaxed and non-formal. Snorkelling is also good.
Has some gorgeous scenic views and beautifull beches. Tourism is minimal which makes it for a nice getaway. There are a few bars there and of course great street food.

There's really only one proper road, linking the south end (Chalok) with the pier in Mae Haad and the small town Sairee on the west side of the island. For other locations, there are dirtroads of various conditions, you can move around with an ATV or a motor bike, or go by boat.

To get there, you can take a ferry, or a more expensive speedboat, from Koh Samui (wich has an airport) and Koh Phangan. There's also ferry connection from Chumphon on the mainland.

Today was the last day of my advanced open water course and I had to do four dives in the day. I had to get up early at 5.30 but thankfully I slept ok as there wasn't a huge rat in my room this time. The first was a deep dive, down to about 23 metres deep, here we saw a huge jelly fish that was pulsating and had little fish swimming in and around it. It didn't have long tentacles so we managed to get closer to it to inspect it. The surface was pretty choppy when we came up, with the boat rock...

Koh Tao & Koh Nangyuan Tour

Here we go again! Wake up early, 7AM, and waiting for our shuttle to the Speedboat. Yesterday we ordered 2 tours: Koh Tao & Koh Nangyuan: 1750 Baths Ang Tong : 1900 Baths My suggestion (if you’re few days) is to order only one: Ang Tong   The tour  begins  with a simple Breakfast (That we agree so much!), then we saw them: Our own Paris Hilton and Brittney Spears! Paris so thin, a little bit tanned, comes quickly to the external deck of the Speedboat to have Sunb...

Time for a holiday!

We have spent our last few days on the island of Ko Tao in pretty much the same way have we have the previous.  You will be pleased to know that Emma's bite went quite quickly, although the anti-histemine tablets she was given were more like sedatives as she did nothing but sleep for the two days she was taking them! The beach has stayed as perfect as ever, although the sea did get a little cooler over the last few days.  It wasn't quite like getting into a hot bath as it had been!...

Quick note.  We are heading out of Ko Tao today and we are both very sad, and very excited.  We will miss our friend Saan very much. I finished my Advanced Diver course and Megs finished her Open Water course.  She decided to wait until later to do an Advanced course. There is a Veterinary Hospital here that will supply a place to stay, money for basic expenses, motorcycle and petrol, to vet techs who come to help out.  Looking at coming back here to help for 3+...
