Ko Lanta Vacation Guide
Ko Lanta (Lanta island) consists of Lanta Noi (Small Lanta) and Lanta Yai (Big Lanta) and are part of Krabi Province of Thailand.
Currently there is no airport to go to Ko Lanta. Most travelers to Lanta will arrive at an airport in Krabi or Trang and take a minivan to the islands. There is no bridge to the islands so vehicles cross over onto the islands by ferry from the mainland to Lanta Yai and another ferry to Lanta Noi. Another option is to take a ferry from a point on the coast. Ferries run from the west from Phuket and Ko Phi Phi and other ferry services comes from the south and stops at points as far south as Langkawi, Malaysia.
The area of tourism is on Lanta Yai and concentrates around the town of Ban Sala Dan on the northern tip of the islands. This is where all the ferries and minivan transports terminate.
The west side of the island has beaches where resorts and bungalow operations have lodging. The furthest north beach is Hat Khlong Dao and is the busiest area of tourism on the island. The further south you go the quieter the beaches get. Hat Phra Ae (Long Beach) is the next beach heading south followed by Hat Khlong Nin, Hat Khlong Hin, Ao Kantiang and Ao Khlong Jak.
On the east side of the island is the town of Ban Si Raya (Lanta Old Town) where there are a few hotels and resorts.
Activities in Ko Lanta include Scuba Diving and snorkeling, relaxing on the beach or taking an elephant ride at one of the two elephant parks on the island.

All kicked off with a longtail boat journey on to the ferry... imagine 10 elephants squeezing into a mini, and you get the idea of how cramped it was! Wasn't the calmest of days either so it was a miracle that neither a passenger (prob…
