We realise we are just one step away from living on this island...BUT we thought we'd come back for one last time...just to show the boys HOW GOOD IT IS! We spent the following 3 days enjoying the last of the sun before returning to the inevitably bad weather of Oz, eating posh meals that dont cost one million dollars, and swimming in a sea that doesn't try to claim your swimsuit every 5 minutes....a final goodbye to Thailand, and a fantastic end to our travels with the boys!&n...

Nightly Blackouts in Koh Lanta; Getting Lost in Thai Jungle & Falling Into Toxic Waste

from krabi we took the ferry to koh lanta. it's more relaxed, more beach oriented and less clubbing oriented (vs how phuket is clubbing oriented). it's less developed than koh chang but definitely more developed than sihanoukville. after settling into our hotel, the 3 of us decide to trek along the beach to see where the happening places are... and this is where our latest misadventure began.   one of the staff at the hotel at the end of the beach told art that there was a path w...

Beach, bats and bloody toes in Koh Lanta!

The trip over to Koh Lanta was a little hairy to say the least. All kicked off with a longtail boat journey on to the ferry... imagine 10 elephants squeezing into a mini, and you get the idea of how cramped it was! Wasn't the calmest of days either so it was a miracle that neither a passenger (probably me!!) or a bag didn't fall in. Trip over to Koh Lanta was pretty long and at times very choppy so we were more than happy to reach Koh Lanta 5 hrs later, even though we had to clamber over 3 b...

Quote/Unquote High Season
posted by:
Nov 18, 2007 - Jun 17, 2008
Well, more like the peak of high season.  At least that’s what they keep telling us.  After a 14 hour bus ride from Bangkok to Krabi, a 3 hour wait for our late late LATE ferry and another 2 hours on the water, Sean and I arrived at our Christmas destination:  Koh Lanta.  Needless to say, there was quite a bit of build up in our minds of the wonderful island paradise that was supposed to be our reward for the 20 hour migration south.    Not that this place i...

Ferry boat to Ko Lanta

Today was a day to relax and enjoy the trip.  Make no real plans just do what feels right.  I decided to walk south on the main road from were the side road that I was staying on is.  Pretty much more of the same and maybe a little more spread out.  There are are a few restaurants that might be local favorites and a tire shop and a small Mosque.  I eventually cut back over to the beach and walked back on the beach.  I stopped at the  beach mall and did some ...

Lanta Island, Krabi, Thailand

After we cam out of the private property, then we take a drive round the island. The road on the east side of the island is under construction and that is time to test out our four wheel drives. Yes, it feels good to at last use the four wheel drive on the car. We had no chance to use it for a long while (not that I complain about good road). There is a nice restaurant on top of a small hill on the east side of the island. The east side is not as beautiful as the west side and there are many...

my love affair with the universe

they say the universe works in mysterious ways, but i think if you make an effort to fine tune your cosmic detective skills, the clues are fairly easy to read - and following them to the 'master plan' (which usually bears little if any resemblance to YOUR plan) - sniffing out the fruit that the masterplan tree proffers andf then being able to recognize that fruit, even if it looks like a vegetable - saves you from any disappointment that could otherwise manifest when your trip veers off the m...

Island of Long Beaches

After the awfulness of the full moon party and the terror of Kao Sok it was a welcome return to be back on Ko Lanta, and nice to see familiar faces. We explored some new beaches and also went caving, where the cave has been left in total darkness and so cool headlamps are given out, and there are walkways and ladders of bamboo to negotiate as well as a cave pool and a bat colony. I was the only person in the group who managed to slip all the way down a rockface though and cut my leg up. The e...

Krabi and Ko Lanta Wednesday, Apr 23, 2008 The last day in Ko Yao was another quiet one, Erin was shown how to make the Banana pancakes that we were having each morning and we booked a tuk tuk and ferry to Krabi. The following morning we got up early to catch our ferry to krabi, and to say our goodbyes to the owners.  Our lovely hosts had also made us our favourite Banana pancakes (for free!!).  When the tuk tuk arrived we jumped in and they waved goodbye until we wer...

Once you get out of Bangkok, Thailand is a beautiful country full of friendly faces, nice beaches and good partys. I stayed in the south visited Koh Phangan, Krabi, Railey Beach, Phi Phi, Koh Lanta, Phuket. I found Koh Lanta to be the most relaxing, laid back. which was a very nice break after the full moon party and all the crowds in Phi Phi. Koh Lanta also had the best swimming beach in my opinion.
