A hostel for German kings Oct 18, 2012
Königspfalz Tilleda is a place that presents a special chapter of German history. The first German kings did not have a permanent residence, but a temporary hostel which was called Pfalz. The king and his entourage stayed there for several weeks, being supplied by local farmers. Once the local livestock was eaten, the king and his entourage moved to the next hostel which was one horseback riding day away.

This historical place was rebuilt on historical ground during the 1990s in order to revive medieval history. You can see the houses of bakers, blacksmiths and weavers, and of course the rebuilt fortification. All kinds of medieval toys are sold in the shop inside the museum.

Königspfalz Tilleda is located on a hill, providing a splendid view onto surrounding landscape. Kyffhäuser is located in walking distance. There are four daily bus connections, but approaching by car is much easier.

This museum is closed in winter. The entrance fee (4 EUR) is rather affordable.
