Knaresborough Yorkshire Reviews
A real jigsaw town Nov 03, 2011
Sorry I have no photos of Knaresborough but you may well know it anyway from jigsaw pictures. if not, you will at least gather that the town makes a really striking picture with its viaduct scenically overlapping the gorge of the river Nidd.
Knaresborough is not in either of Yorkshire's national parks but still attracts many visitors. The castle and a church date from the 14th century; a 17th century chemist's shop can be seen in the market square; however probably most tourists are drawn by the petrifying well, where there are always articles of clothing being gradually turned to stone by the dripping water and Mother Shipton's well Mother Shipton was a 15th century prophetess who fretold many modern events with great accuracy. However her reputation finds it hard to withstand the fact that the world still exists after she predicted its demise.
