Ok stopover on the way to Milford Sound Dec 23, 2010
Date: 23 December 2010
Check-in: I had booked the site over the internet. Check in was fast and the guy was very friendly. The price for two of us was $30.
Location: The campsite is about a 45 minute drive south of Queenstown in a small town on a lake. The town itself has a pub / cafe and a restaurant. We didn't use either. There's also an undeveloped lake front area. When we were here it was way too windy to enjoy it. There are also two jettys, which my boyfriend used to fish off of. He didn't have much luck.
Facilities: Coming from a Top 10 Campground in Queenstown, the campsite here looks a bit more run down. The facilities though are quite good. The kitchen has tables for 3, and pretty much all the cookware, utensils, dishes you could need. This was good for us, as our cmapervan only came with one pot and one frying pan. There are also two BBQs (free of charge), microwave, toasters and a machine that constantly has boiling water.
Campsites:We had a powered lot which has hedges on both sides, so you get some privacy. There weren't alot of people staying here while we were here, but even so, I think it would be quite quiet here.
Overall experience: If you're looking for a quiet spot on the way to Te Anau or Milford Sound, it's a nice spot to stopover. If you want to be closer to the action or with more restaurants, things to do, I'd give it a miss.
