An Agreeable Atmosphere and Accompanying Fare at the King's Arms May 06, 2012
The King's Arms is our favorite among the Colonial tavern restaurants operated by Colonial Williamsburg. We've enjoyed dinner and lunch here on several occasions. Most recently, we stopped in for lunch. The restaurant can be crowded, so we arrived when the doors opened at 11:30 a.m.

The menu assigns fanciful Colonial-sounding names to the dishes to get the visitor into the spirit. And, the dishes designed are in the spirit of a Colonial bill of fare, but prepared in a modern style. Dinner is served by candlelight. For lunch, salads, sandwiches, and main dishes are offered. On this visit, both Susan and I had peanut soup to start. I ordered A Dish of Beef (pot roast) with a side of mashed potatoes included. Susan ordered the Cook’s Gridironed Chicken Salat.

There will be entertainment during your meal. Sometimes, a strolling musician comes by. This time, a Post Rider came in bringing the news from Philadelphia and the Continental Congress.

The Colonial Taverns are a bit more expensive than average, but worth it. You must try one of them at least once!

A Colonial Williamsburg admission ticket is not required to dine at a tavern.
