King Salmon Vacation Guide

King Salmon is located on the Alaska peninsula on the north bank of the Naknek River about 15 miles upriver from the city of Naknek. King Salmon is in Bristol Bay Borough. Coordinates of King Salmon are 58°41′10″N 156°39′18″W.

Today King Salmon is a transportation center and the majority of people that visit are on small airlines that stop in King Salmon to refuel before continuing on to the Aleutian or Pribilof islands. It is also a service center for the commercial fishing and sport fishing industries. Current population is about 450.

King Salmon became a air navigation center in the 1930s and the US military built an air base there at the beginning of World War II. This base remained opened until 1993.

My second day of fishing was with Kevin and a very exciting fly-in trip to the middle of the wilderness. Lots of evidence that bear were close by but we never saw any.
