Kinderdijk is a small Dutch town with many
windmills built in the 1740s. The mills were designed to keep the village dry
and are now designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. While this is not a
destination on its own, if you are passing through the area, it is certainly
worth a stop. There is a path to the mills on the far side of town which runs

Probably one of the most beautiful locations I have been to in Netherlands till now. The entire place is crisscrossed by canals. With windmills flanking on both sides. Most of these windmills are from the 17th century and many are still operational. One windmill is open for visitors. There are many ways to reach Kinderdijk. Now I was a little disappointed with Zaanse Schans, but I wasn't going to give up my windmill search until I found some good ones.
