Kinderdijk, Netherlands -› -› …
The last two weeks the 19 historic windmills, which are listed at the UNESCO world heritage site, were spectacularly lit with colourful and energy-efficient LED lighting.
This year was the first that these lights are being used.
The lights are from Philips and they were installed by the TU (Techn…

Our fortunate run with good weather had run its course, and it was cold and windy Thursday morning, but we returned to the train station armed with Agnes’ directions to Kinderdijk. Arrived at Rotterdam Centraal with no problems and followed signs to ‘Tourist Information’, which turne…

Last Januar we had some very cold weeks in The Netherlands, it was freezing -16 for a week. A bit to cold for me but perfect for the water to get frozen and prepare for the famous Milltour (Molentocht) through the Alblasserwaard. That's an area in South Holland where the windmills are standing alon…

Upon request, I have my windmill poem translated from Dutch, the rhyme has unfortunately gone, but the message is still clear I hope.
The mills of simplicity
When I carefully listened to the wind
suddenly I was aware of my thoughts
and I realized some things do me little…

Kinderdijk is a small Dutch town with many
windmills built in the 1740s. The mills were designed to keep the village dry
and are now designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. While this is not a
destination on its own, if you are passing through the area, it is certainly
worth a stop. There i…

Probably one of the most beautiful locations I have been to in Netherlands till now. The entire place is crisscrossed by canals. With windmills flanking on both sides. Most of these windmills are from the 17th century and many are still operational. One windmill is open for visitors. There are many…

Wow, the Netherlands is one of my favourite countries on the planet. And I dont say that lightly. I get giddy just at the thought of the place. I've spent a lot of time in the Netherlands but this was the first nibble I had of this delicious buffet of beautiful scenery and the 2nd most likeable race on the planet! I was there on business for a full month and it also set the scene for my love of Europe.

Now I was a little disappointed with Zaanse Schans, but I wasn't going to give up my windmill search until I found some good ones. Going off the only other lead I had, I went to Kinderdijk, which was south of Amsterdam through Rotterdam. The train ride was not long, and it turned out to…
