Kimi Ryokan, Tokyo Jun 08, 2011
This was a good place to stay in central Tokyo. It's a traditional style Japanese inn, with totami (mat) floors and little (somewhat hard) futon mattresses to sleep on. It was clean, the staff are nice and very helpful and it's very affordable by Japan standards for your own private room ( i paid about US $50 for a single room with a one person sized mattress). The rooms were very spartan, just a mattress, a few hangers, and mine had no view, just a window that opened into an alley, but very clean and cute and they lend you a traditional japanes robe and slippers to lounge around in. They have wifi in the downstairs lounging area, where there are also drink and beer vending machines, as well as free hot green tea and hot water. There is a little kitchen and place to make and eat food in the common area, which is great if you're on a budget and want to be able to eat your 7-11 convenience food (quite good in Japan, actually) in a nice environment. Also a chance to meet other travellers, so kind of like a hostel environment, but with private rooms. The bathrooms and showers are shared. I was put into a room on the 2nd floor, right next to the shower, which i did not enjoy because of the noise, but when I figured out that the wifi signal could be picked up in the room because it was right over the common area downstairs, I didn't move rooms to another floor, as I preferred the convinience of surfing from the totami mat rather than the private area. But if you want more quiet, I'd try to get a room away from the shared bathroom area as the noise does really annoy. Overall, a good place from which to explore Tokyo.

So there we were, again, arriving after a long and tiring flight, Tokyo. After quite a moment of hesitation we realised we'd rather go to "our" usual neighbourhood: Ikebukuro. Axel was verry happy to…Ikebukuro. Axel was verry happy to find the Kimi Ryokan again -a traditional japanese hotel with futons and tatamis- and I was glad…
