Kimberley Overview

Kimberley is a small mining city in southeast British Columbia, Canada along Highway 95A between the Purcell and Rocky Mountains. Within driving distance (about 20 minutes) is Cranbrook, the Kootenays largest city.

Kimberley was named in 1896 after the Kimberley mine in South Africa. From 1917 to 2001, it was the home to the world's largest lead and zinc mine, the Sullivan mine. Now it is mainly a tourist destination and home to Kimberley Alpine Resort, a ski area.

Golf courses and a Ski field now play an important role for Kimberley as it becomes the holiday destination for people wanting to escape from Calgary for their holidays.
Banff is 4 hours drive from Kimberley but much more touristy.
It is not unusual to see Deer roaming the streets and there is an active population of Bear in the area.
