Kim Il-sung Square Pyongyang Reviews
Big square in the center of Pyongyang Apr 30, 2010
I've been on several squares around the world, but this one is mostly known for the parades and mass rallies are held to honour the leaders of North Korea.
The square itself is in the heart of the city, measures 75.000 m2 and surrounding at are several buildings, including the Workers Party of Korea Headquarters (with a big portrait of the Great Leader Kim Il Sung on the front), the Grand People's Study House (with the balcony where the leaders and high officials appear before the crowd), the Ministry of Foreign Trade (with 2 large portraits of Marx & Lenin) and 2 museums.
From thew square, I had a clear view of the Tower of Juche Idea. The square also lays next to the Taedong River. Unlike Tiananmen Square in Beijing, where guards are visibly present, I didn't saw any guards. But no doubt I had eyes watching as I took my pictures.
Part of the list What to see and do in North Korea
