After a long flight and a lot of jet lag, being stuck in a car was not an ideal way to begin Ireland, but we were on limited time and had to push ourselves like the traveling Olympians we were. We were attempting to see a lot in only a few days so we planned to go from Dublin to Cork the first day with a stop in Kilkenny to see the Kilkenny Castle.
The ride there was pretty interesting. First off, the radio stations were all talk radio or country music. In fact...

Wow, so Dublin was... hectic but we are now in Kilkenny, a beautiful town just south west of Dublin. It has been raining for most of the trip but the clouds finally broke today and it is gorgeous outside! Yesterday we drove from Dublin to Kilkenny, making stops at Glendolaugh. The original plan was to drive over the Sally Gap, but the weather was so bad and the visibility so poor that the gap was closed, which meant we didn't get to see the Guinness Mansion and lake and had to take a detour. ...

The previous night at Kilkenny was a good one. Perhaps because it was our last. We arrived at around 6pm and the walk from where the bus was parked to our hostel was quite a long one! The hostel was piss poor. But we had pizza at an outlet before heading out to a pub till about 1am. After which we hit the street, we even ran into a bloke who used to be in prison and now was a drug dealer.... and he had interesting stories to tell us. It was real fun.
So no surprises than that we wo...

Alquilamos un coche por 8 días y comenzamos la ruta. Primera parada en en Kilkenny. Preciosa ciudad, con un magnifico castillo, y calles muy bonitas, coloristas y animadas. Fue muy agradable pasear por ellas.

After that we were on our way to Killkenny. Kilkenny's rich medieval heritage is evident in the city's treasure trove of historical buildings and landmarks. This is exemplified by the magnificent Kilkenny Castle. Kilkenny is arguably the pre-eminent medieval city in Ireland, with the current layout of the city clearly grounded in the city's medieval roots.
Once we got to Killkenny we found a B&B and got settled in. I went to explore the town while Ed read. It's a ...

Another nice town/city. Well worth visiting the castle and just wandering around the streets. The weather was pretty bad, though did ease off in the afternoon. Stopped to sample one of the local beers (Kilkenny) which was like a slightly more bitter version of Caffreys. I didn't realise that that the Kyteler's Inn had quite a bit of history to it, I'll leave the intrepid traveller to discover its history!Stayed at the Kilkenny Ormonde Hotel, which was pretty reasonable after you take into acc...

We decided that the best way to get to Cork was by the bus instead of
the train which would take us all the way back into Dublin before
heading south again. Probably woul have been quicker and cheaper to
get the bus instead of the train in the first place - but oh well. So
we decided to get the bus and get the one thats at 6pm so we've got a
few hours to kill. We walked down to the river and then along the bank
beside the castle. It was a fair walk to make it to ...

With barely any sleep (thanks to seats in the back of the plane next to the toilets...) we landed in Dublin! With greasy faces and puffy eyes, with +20 hours of travel under our belts, we got our bags and hopped on the 575 to Heuston Station. Not only was it our first time in Europe, it was going to be our first time riding a train! Kris and Mary fell right to sleep in the train, but I stayed awake to make sure we didn't miss our stop. It was nice being able to relax and watch the sheep and c...

After leaving Waterford, we stopped in Kilkenny on our rather roundabout route to Cork. We took in Kilkenny castle, then continued on our way to Cork. Regrettably, we didn't stay long in Cork at all - we stopped for the night without seeing much of anything, and upon waking up we immediately proceeded onto Blarney and beyond.
