Panmunjom, North Korea
Kijongdong Flagpole Panmunjom Reviews
Worlds 2nd largest flagpole May 04, 2010
Near Panmunjom (North Korea) and in the 2 kilometer no-mands land at the border with South Korea, lays the village of Kijongdong.
Now, this village is known as a propaganda village. No one is supposed to be living there, but while we drive through the area, I did noticed people working the farmlands.
Anyways, in the village stands a giant flagpole, which towers 160 meters (525 feet) in the sky. The flag itself weighs 270 kilos (595 pounds).
It's the worlds 2nd tallest flagpole and it was built in the korean flagpole war. Now, the version I heard while in North Korea, was that both countries had equal height masts.
In the 80's, South Korea built a 98.4 meter (323 feet) flagpole, the North Koreans responded by building a new one, the 160 meters high one.
I only got a glimpse of the flagpole in the fog, but a better view of it while I was in South Korea a few days later.
Part of the list What to see and do in North Korea
