This is the most powerful of all the towers around Tallinn and with good reason. With stone walls measuring 4meters thick and had room for 27 cannons and 30 handguns.
There is several floors and each one has a separate exhibit. On the bottom floor you can sit down and watch a documentary about the tower , mind that the movie is more than 30mins long. PS. There’s something disconcerting about standing beside an empty baggage carrousel in a strange country without your luggage. Worse is the ominous sound of silence as the belt grinds to a halt. Welcome to Estonia!
Our adventure…Kiek in de Kök , a large, medieval cannon tower. Literally translating to ‘peek into the kitchen,’ soldiers posted on the tower could look down nearby chimneys and see into kitchens, hence the name. Today, Kiek in de Kök is a museum… Tallinn, Estonia |

The day started really early for me and Olga, waking up at 5am, and leaving hotel Best in a taxi to get us to the bus station in the centre for the 0615 departure. We were travelling with Euro lines. I never used the…Kiek in de Kök”
After a while wondering around the Danish courtyard, we headed back towards the town square to have a meal. The meals in the Estonian restaurants were all too expensive, when I was reading the menu boards outside… A lovely city! |
