Khao San Palace Reviews

It doesn't get much more smack-dab-in-the-middle of the farang-filled travellers' ghetto of Thanon Khao San than the Khao San Palace. It's far from spectacular, but if you're not looking for 5-star luxury (and if you want to stay on Khao San Road, chances are you're not), the Khao San Palace is probably a small step above (both in price and in quality) the rest of the budget guesthouses. The rooms are clean, the service is friendly and efficient, and the rooftop pool - although small - provides the option of a decent break from the heat and chaos of Bangkok.
There are both fan and AC rooms, although the non-AC rooms are in a less plush wing closer to the street, and noise can definitely be an issue. The mattresses are also a little on the lumpy side. A standard double is 400 baht without AC, 600 baht with AC. There are single rooms listed on the price sheet for about 70% of the cost of an equivalent double, but it's not clear how many there are, so you may end up having to pay for a double room anyway. I visited the touristy districts of the temple and palace complexes, Khao San Rd, Chinatown, and Silom. But I also tried to wander off the main streets to see what lay behind the facade. I mostly walked, but also went by taxi, tuk-tukl, Skytrain, and river… Final Wrap on Bangkok and Thailand |

Julie’s research on hotels turned up a real gem, excellent room at a great price and close to the royal palace and Khao San Road.; only catch was actually finding it, our taxi from the airport needed to call the hotel to get directions. Wat Pho was much more impressive than I remembered and our journey round the city good fun.
The helpful… One night in Bangkok |

Khao San Road itself is very touristic, a bit more expensive than other areas and mainly for the pupose of PARTYING! Few nights were definately enough. The grand palace was quite near to Khao San and is definately a place one should visit > amazing… Bangkok |
