Kewaunee Pierhead Lighthouse Jul 06, 2009
Located on the shores of Lake Michigan in Kewaunee, Wisconsin, this lighthouse is currently by the Coast Guard. The grounds are open to the public but the tower is not.

Interestingly, this lighthouse was deemed unneeded for navigation and was therefore offered for to the public; state, government, or local entities, or non-profits. One such group that expressed interest was PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.) Their request letter for purchased included the idea of turning the lighthouse into a vegetarian cafe' along with a hands-on, interactive display showing how fish are friends and not food. As of the date this is published, the pier has not been sold and is still not open for tours.

This lighthouse can be seen from multiple places along the shore including beautiful parks nearby. Any open area along the shorelines boast nice views of this lighthouse.

It is surprising to me that the city has not done more with this lighthouse since it is a fishing and boating mecca and the small city offers almost nothing else to see or do other than fishing.
