Due to sunrise at 4:57am, was awoken to the scenery of snow covered mountains west of us and then pine trees nestled below them as if on tiny islands. Our view was the Tongass National Forest and even though the weather was chilly, overcast and rainy, I couldn't sleep now! We docked into Ketchikan around 6:30am and went up to the Horizon Court for a breakfast of hash-browns, strawberry pancakes, pear, scrambled eggs and ham. What a combo! Couple years ago, my wife and I took a cruise to Alaska.  When we first ventured on this vacation, I thought...eh, wouldn't summertime be better spent drifting through some exotic islands.  I could swim, drink fruity alcoholic beverages with umbrellas poking out the sides, and flirt with the off chance I might contract malaria.  Turns out, this vacation kicked a whole lot of Alaskan ass!  I am new to this Trav Buddy thing, so I am not sure if I write about the whole trip...

Our final stop on Alaska soil was Ketchikan.  Unfortunately, I was not able to see any of the town other than where we had made port.  I was one of the first off of the boat and one of the last back on.  My excursion for the day was a boat ride from Ketchikan, through the bay to view the fjords.  The boat ride was very cold, but quite beautiful.  I spent most of the time on top outside watching for bald eagles, seals, bears and any other wild life I cou...

Although there were different tours on offer, we just wandered around and had a look. We went to the tourist information centre. It is a nice town. And yes there just happened to be a fire department truck there.
