A full day at sea on our way to Ketchikan
posted by:
Aug 22, 2009 – Sep 21, 2009
I awoke at 5:00 a.m. this morning as we finished cruising into port.  We had changed our clocks late last night to the Alaskan time, one hour back.  As they brought the ship to the dock at 6:30 am I woke my wife and we dressed and headed to breakfast.  The weather today was worse tha…

I’m not sure how to write about days at sea so some of the pictures here will be from yesterday.   Today we are in Ketchikan.  It’s raining, but we are going to go ashore anyway.  We have an umbrella and our windbreakers to help keep us dry.  (Boy did they not work!!) …

Due to sunrise at 4:57am, was awoken to the scenery of snow covered mountains west of us and then pine trees nestled below them as if on tiny islands. Our view was the Tongass National Forest and even though the weather was chilly, overcast and rainy, I couldn't sleep now! We docked into Ketch…

I set the alarm for 7:00 but woke up at 6:30 to find the ship docked at Ketchican. We again had breakfast in the Horizon Court and walked in town for about 1/2 hour. Because we'd booked a trip that involved a flight, I'd felt bad when we got up because of the low clouds. The locals in Ketchican tho…

Alaska!

We were pretty excited to be moving onto our next destination, Juneau, Alaska! I'll admit we were also excited to get on the ferry and be able to use the electrical outlets found throughout the ship! This would be an overnight ferry ride, departing Ketchikan at 2:30pm and arriving in Juneau at 10:3…

Couple years ago, my wife and I took a cruise to Alaska.  When we first ventured on this vacation, I thought...eh, wouldn't summertime be better spent drifting through some exotic islands.  I could swim, drink fruity alcoholic beverages with umbrellas poking out the sides, and flirt with …

First Port: Ketchikan
posted by:
Jul 10, 2004 – Jul 18, 2004
Our welcome to Alaska occurred in Ketchikan which is a wonderful small city to explore on foot.  A tunnel not far from where our ship docked divided the city into two areas, and we had the chance to see both.  First, we headed right (which may have been south).  This is the touristy …

Our final stop on Alaska soil was Ketchikan.  Unfortunately, I was not able to see any of the town other than where we had made port.  I was one of the first off of the boat and one of the last back on.  My excursion for the day was a boat ride from Ketchikan, through the …

When you're on a trip, you no longer have to think about making reservations or planning for this and that. Instead, you think about food. On the ferry back from Haida Gwaii we had french fries and gravy. And the chocolate milk. Who can forget that. In Prince Rupert we went straight for breakfast a…

Wandered around

Although there were different tours on offer, we just wandered around and had a look. We went to the tourist information centre. We checked out the outdoor/fishing/camping store.  We looked at some of the souveniers but we didn't buy anything. One of the couples that we had dinner with took o…

We went outside to the city.  It was the first port that we stopped in after our first sea day.  We went around the shops before our excursion at 10:20 am.  There were so many jewelery stores around the town, every other store was a jewelry store!  The town was cute.  They …

This was a cruise that I went on with some family and friends. This trip to Alaska doesnt even compare with my trip in 2007! I would much rather be driving around in Alaska then in the waters. but sense Alaska is magical, I loved the trip.the ship left port from Seattle, loved this city. Ports were in Juneau, Sitka, and Ketchikan. We also cruised around glagier bay for a day, which was beautiful!
