We paid the customary visit to the Lakes District, one of England's treasured natural landscapes of rolling hills, picturesque towns, and - obviously - lakes. Beatrix Potter was apparently so enchanted by the lakes district that when she found herself rolling in it (rolling in cash, not rolling in the lakes), she started buying up acres of land to save it from developers. Weekend Adventures

Took the water bus from Friars Crag to Hawse End, then a tough walk and climb up and over Catbells, up to Maiden Moor and on to High Spy before a really hard descent through an abandoned slate quarrey to Rosthwaite with a return bus journey to Friars Crag.
